Let Go

I recently just finished a new piece symbolizing the process of letting go. I find myself holding onto certain memories or people that were once important in my life. It is hard to move on at times when certain places or activities reinforce the fact that these moments have passed. Even social media continues the remembrance of these times by allowing us to pick what memories we display and preserve.

Acrylic on canvas, 2022.
Throughout life we are constantly saying hello and goodbye to people whether we realize it or not. The hardest part about moving on from people in our lives is the loss of comfort and
familiarity. We become alone again, isolated and scared. Scared that no one else will understand us like that one person did. It won’t be the same again, ever. Again, that is daunting to think about, but it doesn’t need to be. There are reasons why things don’t work out with certain people, we may not have all the answers as to why, but we have to trust that things work out of our control sometimes. It is okay to be out of control at times and trust that what happens is for the better.
Learning how to let go and stop holding on to a vanishing ideology of someone takes time. All we have is time in this life and with that we need to be patient with ourselves.
